From the Pastor - Midweek News March 1, 2017
Lent begins TODAY, and there are several things that you need to know:
1. We will not celebrate Communion on March 5 or April 2. We will have Communion on Ash Wednesday (March 1), Holy Thursday (April 13) and on Easter (more on that to come).
2. We will be walking through Lent in the company of Glyndon, St. Luke’s, Pleasant Hill, Deer Park, Ward’s Chapel and Calvary (Gamber) UMCs, and each week we will enjoy a soup and sandwich lunch or supper (your choice of time!) at one of the churches. The locations will be published in the bulletin and on the website each week. Please sign up for the Lenten lunches and/or suppers that you will be attending as we need to let the host church know how many are coming about a week ahead of time. The first week (March 8), we will be hosting at RUMC, and Sue Wright is serving as the coordinator. Thank you Sue!!
3. If you haven’t already, please pick up the devotional/study book and begin reading. The process will be that we will all be preaching on the theme on Sunday and then the gathering will be a time to discuss the same theme on the following Wednesday. See the chart below for the reading assignments and the dates that the theme will be leading us.
I am really looking forward to this series as we are led by five community pastors in our weekly Wednesday gatherings – and as we build community with other congregations. The diversity that is offered among the churches will give us a lot to inspire and motivate us to keep a Holy Lent.
See you on Sunday!
