For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10
    Fourteenth Sunday After Pentecost
    September 6, 2020-10 am

    Prelude

    Welcome

Call to Worship (based on Psalm 139)
Let us bring our praises to the Lord, our Maker:
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works - that I know very well!
Our frames were not hidden from you when we were being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
Your eyes saw my unformed substance, and in your book were written all the days that were planned for me, when none of them yet existed.
How precious are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them!
We stand in awe of your intricate handiwork, and we praise and bless your holy name.

Opening Hymn  All Creatures of Our God and King (vv. 1, 4, 5 & 7)

    Verse 1
All creatures of our God and King
Lift up your voice and with us sing
    Alleluia alleluia
Thou burning sun with golden beam
Thou silver moon with softer gleam
O praise him O praise him
    Alleluia alleluia alleluia

    Verse 4
Dear mother earth who day by day
    Unfoldest blessings on our way
    O praise him alleluia
The flowers and fruits that in thee grow
Let them his glory also show

    Verse 5
All ye that are of tender heart
    Forgiving others take your part
    O sing ye alleluia
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear
Praise God and on him cast your care

    Verse 7
Let all things their creator bless
    And worship him in humbleness
    O praise him alleluia
Praise praise the Father praise the Son
And praise the Spirit Three in One

    Opening Prayer (unison)
Mighty Creator, since the beginning of time, the universe has been your canvas. All around us we catch glimpses of your artistic beauty - every detail the product of your perfect intention. As we worship, remind us that we have also been fashioned with such purpose and care that we reflect your beauty and majesty. We ask this in the name of your Son Jesus Christ, in whom we have been created anew. Amen.

    Proclamation and Response

    Scripture Reading Ephesians 2:1-10
1 Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2 You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3 All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else.

4 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5 that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6 For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7 So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus.

8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10 For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Leader: This is the Word of God.
    All: Thanks be to God!
